By SEÁN O'DONOGHUE Managing Editor HAMLIN - After unseconded motions from Commissioner Charles Vance, and messages of both dissent and support from a number of members of the assembled public, former Lincoln County Assessor Jerry Allen Weaver remained hired last week and was due to start work in his former office yesterday, July 1. The matter was discussed at length during last Thursday's regular session of the Lincoln County Commission in Hamlin. Neither Weaver, nor Assessor Tracy Dempsey were present at the meeting last week. As reported in The Lincoln Journal previously, Weaver's appointment as a mapper and field appraiser was previously approved on a 3-0 vote by the commission at their June 5 regular session. At that time, Vance seconded Commissioner Buster Stowers' motion to hire Weaver. By RON GREGORY Staff Writer HAMLIN — Two major issues raised by Lincoln County Commissioner Charles Vance regarding the employment of former Assessor Jerry Weaver appear to have been addressed, according to county officials. Vance said at a county commission meeting last week that, if he had known the Jerry Weaver being employed by Assessor Tracy Dempsey was “the same Jerry Weaver who was the assessor,” he would have asked for two opinions.
